about Chené

Chené Vorster

After completing my school career in Alberton and finding my feet, I moved to Pretoria where I completed my studies in Dietetics. The “Jacaranda city” rewarded me with lots of purple flowers and precious memories. I lived in a university residence (Madelief) for two of these years and managed to partake in most residence activities. I don’t like to sit still and I always keep myself busy and lend a hand wherever help is needed. My final year at UP was just as rewarding, as I was working in various different communities and helped many different people. I managed to finish the year off at the biggest hospital in Africa (CHBAH) and I couldn’t be prouder of my accomplishments during my internship. The adventurous year of 2020 finally came and I was back in Alberton, working as a community service dietitian at Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital in Vosloorus. The year presented itself with many challenges and experiences, but I am forever grateful that I was fighting on the frontlines during the Covid-19 pandemic.

I stumbled upon the field of dietetics by accident, but I never looked back or hesitated in my decision. The moment I discover the intriguing field, I knew it was meant for me. I love helping people in need and I absolutely love (all types of) food. I was also diagnosed with high cholesterol at the age of 18 & know the unknown feeling that comes with it. I understand the anxiety with dealing with a chronic disease diagnosis and enjoy helping my patients closely with the ‘scary’ path ahead.

A few fun facts about me:

I prefer vegetables over fruits.

I have skydived and bungy-jumped.

My favourite colour is green as it reminds me of nature.

My eyes are two different shades of blue & different sizes.

If it was possible, I would rather be living under the sea. I’m a certified PADI rescue diver and this is where you’ll find me during my holidays.

I prefer warm weather over cold weather.

I am the proud mother of 10 house plants.

My favourite food is sushi and Wednesdays are always ‘sushi-day’!

I don’t eat beetroot at all - I’ve tried baking it into cakes, add it to smoothies and make it any possible way, but I just couldn’t develop a taste for it.

I crochet in my free time.

My special interests include chronic diseases (hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesteremia etc.), weight loss & mental health disorders.
